Tripura, 6 June 2025: A three-day state-level review meeting was recently held in Tripura to discuss the roadmap for malaria elimination and dengue control. The meeting was inaugurated by Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Department of Health & Family Welfare. He stated that the state government aims to make Tripura malaria-free by the year 2027.
As part of ongoing efforts, approximately 9.5 lakh mosquito nets have already been distributed. Various preventive measures have been initiated, including the release of larvivorous fish, larvicide spraying, and door-to-door malaria testing and treatment services.
The meeting took place from June 2 to June 4 at the conference hall of the National Health Mission (NHM) headquarters. It was attended by Malaria Technical Supervisors from all districts, District Vector-Borne Disease Consultants, District Malaria Officers, State Consultants, Accounts Assistants, and Data Entry Operators.
The review was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Tapas Kumar Bhattacharya, Senior Regional Director of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and Dr. Abhijit Das, State Programme Officer of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP).
Also present were Arup Dev, Joint Mission Director of NHM, and Dr. Nupur Debbarma, Member Secretary of NHM.
During the sessions, detailed discussions were held on the state government’s various initiatives to combat malaria and dengue, including:
Door-to-door testing and treatment Larvicide spraying Distribution of mosquito nets Release of larvivorous fish Prophylactic medication Health camps in vulnerable areas Special surveillance of jhumia (shifting cultivator) families
Officials emphasized that these efforts are part of a coordinated action plan adopted by the state to eliminate malaria and control dengue. The action plan includes public awareness drives, destruction of mosquito breeding sites, early detection of cases, and prompt treatment delivery to ensure the health and well-being of the people of Tripura.
