Agartala, June 18, 2025: The Government of Tripura is giving special importance to digital education along with ensuring quality education for students in the state. Emphasis is being laid on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said this while addressing a felicitation ceremony organized for the toppers of the TBSE and Vidyajyoti schools’ Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations.
The event was held at the auditorium of the Hapania International Fair Ground. A total of 82 students were felicitated by the Department of School Education. The Chief Minister congratulated all the students who were honoured and motivated others who couldn’t perform as expected, stating that failure should not be viewed negatively but as a stepping stone toward future success through hard work and determination.
He said that Tripura’s students have immense potential and are not lagging behind in terms of knowledge and intelligence. He encouraged students to focus on building their character along with academic performance and to actively participate in sports and constructive social work. “Bookish knowledge alone cannot be the foundation of life,” he emphasized, urging students to think beyond self-interest and dedicate themselves to the welfare of society and the nation. He also stressed the collective responsibility of keeping students away from addiction.
“Education has no end,” the Chief Minister remarked, adding, “The more you study, the more knowledge and self-confidence you gain.”
The Chief Minister stated that the pass percentage in the TBSE Madhyamik (Class 10) examination this year was 86.53%, with 345 schools achieving a 100% pass rate. In the Higher Secondary examination, the pass percentage stood at 79.29%, with 39 schools attaining a 100% success rate.
Vidyajyoti Schools performed notably well, with an 86% pass rate in the Secondary exams—an increase of 26% from last year. This year, 15 Vidyajyoti Schools achieved 100% results, compared to just one last year. In the Higher Secondary exams, the pass rate rose to 71%, up by 21% from last year, with five schools recording 100% pass rates—up from none last year.
The Chief Minister highlighted a series of initiatives undertaken to improve quality education in the state. These include implementation of the NCERT curriculum, conversion of schools into English-medium institutions, the launch of the Super-30 project, the Chief Minister’s Merit Award, Talent Search Examinations, Vidyajyoti Project, distribution of free workbooks under the ‘Prayas’ scheme, free bicycles for girl students in Class 9, comprehensive reforms in TBSE exams, and introduction of Smart Classes, ICT Labs, Tinkering Labs, and the “Mission Mukul” initiative.
He also acknowledged the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 across schools and colleges in the state under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister. The ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ initiative is also being promoted to reduce exam-related stress among students.
In 2024–25, 44 new school buildings were constructed, and infrastructure upgrades were carried out in 346 schools. For 2025–26, plans are in place to construct 30 new buildings and improve facilities in 123 schools.
The CM informed that under the “Chief Minister Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana,” 140 meritorious girl students who passed Class 12 were given free scooters to encourage higher education. Tuition and other fees have been waived in government degree colleges for female students, increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) of women in higher education.
A special scholarship scheme has been launched for differently-abled (visually impaired) students. Under the “Lakshya” project, financial assistance has been provided to 10 students so far.
The CM also mentioned the establishment of IIIT in Agartala, the National Forensic Science University, and a drone training center at TIT. He reiterated the government’s commitment to developing MBB University as a high-quality institution, along with the overall growth of other public and private higher education institutions in the state.
Special Secretary of the School Education Department, Ravel Hemendra Kumar, delivered the welcome address. Director of School Education N.C. Sharma and other dignitaries were also present. The top three rank holders in Secondary and Higher Secondary exams were honoured with tablets and certificates by the Chief Minister himself.
