Kailashahar, 5 June 2025: Two tea garden workers have been arrested in connection with the brutal mob lynching of a vehicle driver at the Kalishasan Tea Estate under Rangrung Gram Panchayat, Kailashahar. The accused, identified as Samarjit Goala and Premjit Goala, were produced before the Kailashahar Court on Thursday afternoon, confirmed Officer-in-Charge Sukanta Sen Chowdhury.
The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, June 3, when the victim, identified as Pradip Das, was allegedly beaten to death by a mob inside the tea garden premises. His vehicle was also set ablaze. Following a written complaint lodged by the victim’s elder brother, police registered a case and launched an intensive investigation.
As part of the probe, Kailashahar Police summoned several individuals for questioning, including the manager of Kalishasan Tea Estate, the head of Rangrung Gram Panchayat, local social workers, and a number of tea garden workers. This action sparked discontent among the laborers, leading to heightened tensions between the workers and the estate management.
To defuse the situation, Officer-in-Charge Sukanta Sen Chowdhury, along with a contingent of police and TSR personnel, visited the tea estate on Thursday evening and held a dialogue with the workers. The meeting was also attended by local labor leader and former Chandipur Panchayat Samiti Vice-Chairman Sandeep Karmi, along with the tea garden manager.
During the meeting, OC Sukanta Sen Chowdhury made it clear that anyone who voluntarily comes forward with truthful information or confesses involvement will be treated accordingly, and the matter can be resolved swiftly. However, he warned that until cooperation is extended, the police will continue to summon individuals for interrogation as per the needs of the investigation.
He further confirmed that more arrests are likely in the coming days as the probe continues. The police remain committed to uncovering the truth behind the horrific killing of Pradip Das.
