Joint enforcement team acts on DC’s directive; crackdown aims to curb unauthorized industrial units threatening environment and public health
SHABD, Pulwama | June 29: In a major crackdown against unauthorized industrial activities, the Pulwama district administration has sealed over 100 stone crushers and brick kilns for violating environmental norms and operating without valid clearances from the Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Board (JKPCB).
The enforcement drive was conducted under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, with a joint task force comprising officials from multiple departments. The operation was spearheaded by District Officer Mohammad Anwar of the Pollution Control Board and included teams from the Revenue Department, Geology and Mining, Police, Power Development Department, and Jal Shakti Department.
The inspections revealed that several units were functioning without mandatory environmental clearances and legal permissions, posing serious threats to both the local ecosystem and public health. All such units were immediately sealed as part of efforts to halt ongoing environmental damage and enforce regulatory compliance.
District authorities emphasized that this initiative is part of a wider strategy to clamp down on illegal and polluting industries in the region. “This action underscores our commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring that industrial operations are both legal and sustainable,” an official said.
Unit operators have been warned to obtain necessary approvals and adhere strictly to pollution control guidelines. The administration has made it clear that continued violations will lead to stringent penalties and further closures as part of an ongoing drive in the coming weeks.
This decisive move is expected to send a strong message to violators and contribute to restoring ecological balance in the district.
