Tripura, 29 June, 2025: Tripura’s tourism industry is advancing rapidly, carving out a unique identity among the Northeastern states. This was highlighted by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury during the inauguration of the two-day Monsoon Mango Festa 2025 at Narikelkunj today. The festival has been organized by the Department of Tourism.
Speaking at the event, the minister noted that 184 families in the Narikelkunj area have cultivated mango orchards across 287 hectares, achieving financial self-reliance. The orchards include 14 foreign mango varieties alongside indigenous ones. Plans are underway, with support from the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, to expand mango cultivation in the region.
Minister Chowdhury also stated that following last year’s Tourism Promo Fest, tourist inflow both domestic and international—has significantly increased, creating new income opportunities based on tourism. To accommodate this growth, 50 homestays have been established in the Narikelkunj area.
Other dignitaries who addressed the gathering included MLA Nandita Reang and Tourism Secretary U. K. Chakma. The event was also attended by Dhalai Zilla Parishad Chairperson Sushmita Das, MDC Bhumikananda Reang, TTADC Executive Member Rajesh Tripura, Dhalai District Magistrate Saju Wahid A., Director of Tourism Prashanta Badal Negi, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Gandacherra Chandraya Reang, among others.
Local mango farmers set up vibrant stalls showcasing a variety of mangoes, drawing enthusiastic interest from attendees. The minister and other guests visited the stalls and interacted with the cultivators, appreciating their efforts and contributions to both agriculture and tourism.
