Agartala, June 23, 2025: In a resolute drive to make agriculture more productive, sustainable, and technology-driven, the state of Tripura has launched the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, aligning with the national mission. The campaign, which ran from May 29 to June 12, witnessed a surge of collaborative efforts across the state involving farmers, agricultural scientists, officials from the agriculture and allied departments, and grassroots institutions.
The primary objective of the Abhiyan is to ensure optimal utilization of agricultural resources and boost productivity. Alongside improving farmers’ incomes, the campaign aims to enrich the state’s food grain reserves. A range of programs has been rolled out to simplify and profitably modernize farming practices through the integration of advanced technology, use of modern equipment, and cost-effective techniques.
This is not merely a campaign but a far-reaching commitment toward establishing a robust and futuristic agricultural framework where the farmer is the central focus. The initiative has emphasized skill development, awareness of agri-tech innovations, and better access to government schemes.
As part of the Abhiyan, expert agricultural teams were deployed in every district and sub-division, reaching even the remotest villages. Open dialogues and awareness programs were held to discuss scientific farming techniques and various government support schemes. In Jirania Agricultural Sub-Division alone, 12 such sessions were held between June 2 and June 5, engaging a wide array of stakeholders including farmers, panchayat representatives, urban local body members, officials, and agri-scientists.
These sessions emerged as vibrant platforms for knowledge exchange, where grassroots farmers interacted directly with researchers, opening doors to new agricultural possibilities. This exchange of ideas not only motivated the farming community but also paved the way for strengthening the state’s agro-economy.
On June 2, the first major interaction under the Abhiyan took place at the Jirania Nagar Panchayat Hall, attended by Chairperson Ratan Kumar Das, Vice Chairperson Rita Das, officials from the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Animal Resources Development Departments, and leading scientists. A total of 207 farmers participated, including 92 women farmers. Experts addressed queries on modern cultivation, agricultural tools, and government schemes—transforming the session into a bridge between knowledge and practice.
Another vital session was conducted the same day in Sachindra Nagar Colony, attended by Panchayat Head Anup Das and other departmental experts. The day concluded with a program at Bishram Bari Community Hall, drawing participation from local farmers, public representatives, and officials, collectively exploring the opportunities and challenges in agriculture. That day saw the participation of 1,166 farmers.
June 3 marked a key milestone, with sessions held at Majlishpur GP, Gurukul Community Hall in Mohanpur, and Harijan Chowdhury Para GP, drawing 1,464 farmers. On June 4, similar programs were conducted in Kobra Khamar GP, Ranirbazar Geetanjali Hall, and Joynagar GP, where farmers were introduced to best practices in land use and organic farming.
June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day, brought a renewed environmental dimension to the campaign. The day’s activities began at Krishnanagar GP, with vibrant participation from farmers and community members, reinforcing the bond between agriculture and nature. The second major event of the day took place at Mukut Hall in North Majlishpur GP, graced by Transport, Food, and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. In his speech, the Minister reaffirmed that Indian farmers are the true food providers of the nation, and strengthening their economic base is a shared goal of both state and central governments.
He emphasized blending traditional wisdom with modern technology to enhance productivity—a strategy beneficial not just for farmers, but the nation as a whole. The session was rich in information and filled with practical insights. Other speakers included Agriculture Mission Director Rajib Debbarma, ICAR Lembucherra Head Dr. B.H. Choudhury, SHRS Nagicherra’s Dr. Rajib Ghosh, and West Tripura DDA Ranjit Kumar Das. The day’s events concluded at Haradhan Smriti Community Hall in Champaknagar with the presence of senior farmer Avani Kumar Das and GP head Biplab Pal. Tree plantations were also carried out to mark Environment Day.
The campaign was spearheaded by Jirania Agriculture Supervisor Somen Kumar Das, whose dedication and farmer-friendly approach added immense value to the initiative. With a focus on empowering marginal farmers, the campaign extensively discussed modern seed varieties, soil testing and soil health cards, improved farming methods, pest control strategies, easy access to agricultural credit, and effective marketing techniques.
Ultimately, Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan reflects a collective vision where agriculture becomes not just a livelihood, but a self-reliant and sustainable way of life for Tripura’s farmers.
