Tripura, 11 June 2025: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Churaibari Police arrested a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan and two of his associates while they were allegedly attempting to smuggle cannabis in the Govindpur area late Tuesday night.
Based on a tip-off about an imminent smuggling operation, a joint team of Churaibari Police and TSR personnel set up surveillance near the Krishna Kali Temple in Ward No. 2 of Govindpur village. Around 10 PM, they intercepted a luxury vehicle suspected of carrying contraband along the Kadamtala–Govindpur road.

Upon thorough inspection, police recovered four packets of dried ganja from the vehicle. The seized consignment weighed approximately 20 kilograms, with an estimated black market value of ₹2 lakh.
Three individuals were arrested on the spot Ranjit Singh, Surjit Singh, and Subhajit Singh all residents of Ward No. 2, Govindpur village under Churaibari Police Station. Among them, Ranjit Singh is a serving TSR jawan, currently posted with the 12th Battalion in Chakmaghat, Teliamura.
A case has been registered against the trio under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and a detailed investigation is underway to uncover further links in the smuggling network.
The incident has sparked concern over the involvement of a security personnel in drug trafficking, raising questions about internal vigilance and the integrity of disciplined forces in the region.
