Gruesome Murder in Tripura: Shariful Islam’s Body Found in Freezer, Six Arrested Over Alleged Love Triangle
Tripura, 11 June 2025: Tripura Police have uncovered a disturbing murder case involving the death of a 28-year-old man, Shariful Islam, whose body was discovered inside a freezer at a shop over 100 kilometers away from his home in Agartala.
Shariful had reportedly gone missing on the night of June 8, prompting his family to lodge a complaint with the NCC Police Station after losing contact with him. Days later, during a coordinated investigation, police recovered his remains from a freezer in a shop located in Narayanpur, Ganda Twisa raising alarm across the state.
According to officials, the investigation revealed a motive rooted in a love triangle. Both Shariful and the main accused, Dibakar Saha, were allegedly involved in a relationship with the same woman from the Chandrapur area of Agartala. While her identity has not been disclosed, authorities confirmed that both men had close ties to her.
Superintendent of Police (West Tripura), Dr. Kiran Kumar K, briefed the media on Wednesday, stating that Saha had plotted to murder Shariful to remove a perceived rival from his personal life. On the night of June 8, Saha reportedly invited Shariful to a residence in South Indranagar under the pretext of giving him a gift. There, with the help of accomplices—Jaydip Das, Animesh Yadav, and Nabanita Das—Saha allegedly strangled him to death.
In a bid to hide the crime, the group transported Shariful’s body in a large travel bag to Saha’s family-owned shop in Gandatwisa the next morning. The remains were then stored in a commercial freezer used for preserving ice cream, apparently to delay decomposition.
So far, six people have been arrested in connection with the case: Dibakar Saha (28), Jaydip Das (20), Nabanita Das (25), Animesh Yadav (21), and Saha’s parents—Dipak Saha (52) and Debika Saha (48). Police said that further interrogation is ongoing and that more details will emerge as the investigation progresses.
Authorities have described the murder as one of the most shocking cases in recent memory, and the investigation continues to draw significant public attention across the state.
