New Delhi, 7th June 2025: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against a Maoist operative in connection with the targeted killing of Indian Army personnel Motiram Achala in Chhattisgarh last year.
The accused, Ashu Korsa of Bijapur district, has been chargesheeted before the NIA Special Court in Jagdalpur under Section 302 read with 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 16, 18, 20, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
As per NIA investigations into case number RC-13/2024/NIA/RPR, Korsa was directly involved in the conspiracy hatched by the CPI (Maoist), a proscribed terrorist organisation, to assassinate Motiram Achala. The soldier was shot dead on 25th February 2024 during a visit to the Useli village fair in the Amabeda area of Kanker district, while accompanied by his family.
Originally investigated by the local police, the case was handed over to the NIA on 29th February 2024. The agency’s probe uncovered that Ashu Korsa was an active armed cadre of the Kuyemari Area Committee, operating under the CPI (Maoist)’s North Bastar Division. He and a senior Maoist leader had personally identified and targeted Motiram Achala, executing the killing in a crowded local bazaar.
Korsa was arrested by the NIA in December 2024, and is believed to have played a key role in orchestrating the attack to spread fear and suppress local resistance to Maoist activities.
The NIA has stated that investigations are still ongoing to uncover the wider network and conspirators involved in the killing.
