Tripura, June 3, 2025: In a significant move to promote grassroots football and nurture young sporting talent, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has sent seven of its best-performing under-20 footballers to attend selection trials at the prestigious FC Madras Academy in Chennai.
This initiative, spearheaded by the TTAADC Sports and Youth Affairs Department, is part of a broader strategy to create pathways for young athletes to pursue professional careers in sports. The players were selected based on their outstanding performance in the recently concluded TTAADC Super League, a flagship tournament aimed at identifying and grooming local football talent.
Announcing the development on social media on June 2, Suhel Debbarma, Executive Member (EM) of TTAADC in charge of ICA and Sports, expressed pride and optimism over the players’ participation.
“This is a proud moment for TTAADC. Our young footballers are now getting the opportunity to showcase their talent at the national level. Their selection could pave the way for full-time, resident professional training at FC Madras Academy,” said Suhel Debbarma in his statement.
The FC Madras Academy is one of India’s top residential football academies, known for its world-class infrastructure, licensed coaching staff, and professional training programs. A successful selection at the trials could provide these players with long-term residential training, academic support, and exposure to national and international competitions.
This initiative reflects the TTAADC Government’s commitment to sports development and youth empowerment in the tribal areas of Tripura. By creating more platforms for visibility and growth, TTAADC aims to inspire the next generation of athletes from the region.
