Agartala, June 3, 2025: In a major administrative reform, the Tripura government has formally adopted the Unified Pension Scheme under the National Pension System (NPS), marking a significant shift in the pension framework for government employees in the state.
The decision was officially communicated through an Extraordinary Issue of the Tripura Gazette published on May 31, 2025, and is set to take effect from April 1, 2025. The notification (No. F.8(1)-FIN/UPS/2025/638-713), issued by the Finance Department, outlines the categories of personnel who will now fall under the new pension structure.

According to the notification, the Unified Pension Scheme will apply to:
Members of the All India Services, Individuals joining All India Services on or after January 1, 2004, Central Government employees on deputation to Tripura, State Government employees who joined service on or after July 1, 2018.
This move is aimed at streamlining the pension benefits across different government sectors, ensuring consistency with the nationally recognized NPS model.
The notification was signed by Apurba Roy, Secretary to the Government of Tripura, at 19:55:53 on May 30, 2025, and disseminated to all key officials, including Department Secretaries, the Director General of Police (DGP), the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), and Heads of Departments.
The Tripura Government Press, based in Agartala, was responsible for printing the gazette, marking the official rollout of this important policy change.
The adoption of the Unified Pension Scheme is seen as a move toward better fiscal management and alignment with national standards in public service pension administration.
