Mob Fury Erupts in Kailashahar Tea Estate: Youth Beaten to Death After Reckless Car Crash
Kailashahar, June 3: A tragic incident of mob violence rocked the Kalishashan Tea Estate in Kailashahar on Monday, after a speeding car ran over a tea garden worker and crashed into a roadside drain. The aftermath turned deadly when enraged villagers allegedly beat the driver to death, sparking widespread tension across the region.
According to eyewitness accounts, an Alto car moving at high speed lost control and struck a tea garden worker, later identified as Logen Urang, leaving him with a severely fractured leg. The vehicle then plunged into a concrete drain. Sensing the danger, the three occupants of the car driver Pradip Das and two others fled into the tea garden to hide.

The incident infuriated local villagers, who launched a search for the fleeing men. After a prolonged hunt, they allegedly caught Pradip Das, believed to be the driver and owner of the car, and assaulted him brutally. His body was later found about a kilometre away in the tea estate. Pradip Das was a resident of Ratiabari in the Kumarghat area.
In the chaos, the angry crowd set the Alto car ablaze. Firefighters rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames and transported the injured Logen Urang to Unakoti District Hospital for treatment.

The situation prompted a swift response from senior law enforcement officials, including Unakoti District SP Sudhamvika R, Additional SP L. Vanglima Darlong, SDPO Jayanta Karmakar, and Kailashahar PS OC Sukanta Sen Choudhury. Heavy police and TSR presence was deployed to bring the situation under control.
In a surprising turn, one of the car passengers, Nirmal Das of Pecharthal Bazar area, emerged from the tea garden forest hours later and voluntarily surrendered to the police. During initial interrogation, he revealed that the car was driven by Pradip Das and that another youth, Dipen Debnath of Kumarghat, was seated in the back seat at the time of the crash.
The violent episode has plunged the entire Kailashahar subdivision into unrest, with police continuing their investigation into both the fatal assault and the reckless driving incident that triggered it.
