Tripura, 2 June 2025: In a first for Tripura’s political landscape, the Karbook SDM office was locked down by members of the Tipra Motha’s youth wing, marking a rare and symbolic protest by a regional party.
The unprecedented action was carried out in response to what the party claims is continued disregard and lack of official courtesy by Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma. The Tipra Motha youth alleged that the DM failed to respond to or show due respect towards royal scion and party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, as well as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Purna Chandra Jamatia.

Party leaders and youth activists termed the act a “wake-up call” for the state administration, demanding accountability and respect for indigenous leadership and institutions. The incident has triggered strong reactions across political lines and drawn attention to the growing friction between tribal leadership and sections of the state bureaucracy.
