Agartala, 21st June 2025: The 11th International Yoga Day was celebrated across the globe today, and Tripura marked the occasion with a state-level event organized by the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports in collaboration with the State AYUSH Mission.
The main event was held at the Exhibition Hall of the Hapania International Fairground and was inaugurated by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha. The Chief Minister, along with other dignitaries, department secretaries, officials, teachers, and students, actively participated in a group yoga session.

In his inaugural speech, CM Manik Saha emphasized the significance of Yoga Day and described yoga as an inseparable part of Indian civilization. He noted that yoga, created by the sages of ancient India, continues to play a vital role in shaping healthy, beautiful, and positive human lives. He also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2014 proposal at the United Nations to observe June 21 as International Yoga Day, which was supported by 177 countries and has been celebrated globally since 2015.
The CM said that yoga is the ultimate path to self-awareness and helps foster a healthy body and mind. Practicing yoga regularly can relieve fatigue and mental stress. He also pointed out how even countries like the U.S. and China have adopted yoga education centers, showing how the world is following India’s lead in wellness practices.





The Chief Minister also raised awareness on HIV/AIDS and urged parents to play a proactive role in educating and protecting their children. This year’s Yoga Day theme was “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
Addressing the students, the CM encouraged limiting mobile phone usage and adopting yoga into daily routines for better physical and mental well-being, as it also enhances brain function.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, in his welcome address, shared that the International Yoga Day is being observed at every district, sub-division, and block level. Iconic locations like Shaivite shrine Unakoti and Neermahal also hosted special yoga sessions. He announced the establishment of dedicated yoga parks in the state, including a state-level center at Raima Swimming Pool Complex in Badharghat to promote regular yoga practice.
Minister Roy added that in addition to yoga sessions, a weeklong series of events, including cleanliness drives, blood donation camps, and tree plantation programs, are also being organized.
During the event, the Chief Minister and other dignitaries felicitated six national-level yoga award winners and visited the blood donation camp organized at the venue, where 65 people donated blood.
Among the notable attendees were Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Pal, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha, DGP Anurag, Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. P. K. Chakraborty, Director S. B. Nath, and Padma Shri awardee Dr. Dipa Karmakar.
