Agartala, June 20: In a significant move to regulate traffic congestion in Agartala, the Tripura Transport Department has issued revised guidelines for auto-rickshaws coming from outlying areas. The decision was taken in the presence of senior transport officials, traffic police, and representatives from workers’ unions.
Below are the newly issued directives for different regions:
Auto-rickshaws from Mohanpur Subdivision – This includes vehicles coming from Narsingarh, Bamuthia, Gandhigram, and Mohanpur. These autos will now be allowed to drop passengers only at the traffic circle near the Gandhi statue adjacent to the Circuit House in Agartala. After dropping off passengers, the vehicles must return immediately to their originating locations. No auto will be allowed to wait or establish a permanent stop in this area to avoid traffic congestion. Autos from Jirania Subdivision – Vehicles coming from Jirania, Khayerpur, and Ranirbazar can carry passengers up to either the Chandrapur Bus Stand or the Old Central Jail (Central Correctional Facility). The final location will be decided based on the preference of workers’ unions and syndicate representatives. After dropping passengers, these autos must return to their respective areas. Autos from Bishalgarh, Sekerkote, and Amtali – These vehicles are directed to drop passengers at the Nagerjala Motor Stand and then immediately return to their original locations. Student Transport via Reserved Autos – Students from rural areas coming to Agartala for coaching classes will be allowed to enter the city using reserved auto-rickshaws. However, these autos must strictly drop students at coaching centres and are not permitted to transport other passengers within the city thereafter.
The Transport Department has clarified that these steps aim to streamline urban traffic and prevent unnecessary congestion in central Agartala, particularly in high-density areas. Violation of these directives may attract strict action, the department warned.
