Kedarnath, June 15, 2025 | PIB Delhi: A tragic helicopter accident involving Aryan Aviation occurred early this morning in the Kedarnath sector, resulting in immediate suspension of the operator’s services for the ongoing Char Dham Yatra. Rescue operations by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are currently underway near the crash site close to Gaurikund.
The Bell 407 helicopter (Reg. VT-BKA), operated by Aryan Aviation, took off from Guptkashi at 05:10 AM and landed at Shri Kedarnath Ji Helipad at 05:18 AM. It departed again at 05:19 AM with five passengers, one infant, and one crew member on board. The helicopter reportedly crashed between 05:30 and 05:45 AM near Gaurikund, amidst poor visibility and heavy clouding in the valley entry area.

Preliminary assessments suggest a probable case of Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT). However, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will conduct a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact cause.


Following the incident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami convened a high-level meeting at 11:00 AM with officials from the state government, Civil Aviation Ministry, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and UCADA.
Key Actions Taken:
Immediate Suspension of Aryan Aviation’s Char Dham Yatra operations. Pilot License Suspensions: Capt. Yogesh Grewal (VT-TBC) Capt. Jitender Harjai (VT-TBF) Both licenses suspended for 6 months for flying in unsuitable weather conditions. Temporary Halt: All charter and shuttle helicopter operations in the region have been suspended on 15th and 16th June 2025. UCADA Review Mandated: A thorough review with all operators and pilots must be completed before any resumption. New Command-and-Control Room: UCADA will establish a dedicated unit to monitor real-time operations and escalate risk alerts immediately. DGCA Oversight: DGCA has deployed officials from Airworthiness, Safety, and Operations to Kedarnath for rigorous monitoring.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation emphasized that aviation safety is non-negotiable, warning that any deviation from weather or safety protocols will result in strict disciplinary actions.
As rescue teams work at the crash site, prayers and support continue to pour in for the affected families. Updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
