Tripura, 09 June 2025: In a major breakthrough in Tripura’s anti-narcotics campaign, police achieved significant success in Kamalpur on Sunday. Acting on suspicion, personnel stationed at the Srirampur naka point on National Highway-10 intercepted a Suzuki Nexa car and seized a large quantity of banned cough syrup, commonly used as a narcotic.
According to police sources, at around 12:15 PM, a Suzuki Nexa vehicle (registration number TR01CA-0589) traveling from Kumarghat toward Agartala was stopped for checking at the Srirampur checkpoint. Upon inspection, police recovered 131 bottles of ‘Skuf’ cough syrup concealed inside the vehicle. The syrup is known to be misused as an intoxicant.


Following the discovery, Kamalpur Officer-in-Charge Sanjay Laskar and Sub-Inspector Sushanta Mallik rushed to the spot. The vehicle, along with its driver Bontu Malakar and co-driver Pintu Das, was taken into custody and brought to Kamalpur Police Station.
Speaking to the press in the evening, Kamalpur SDPO Samudra Debbarma provided further details and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to eradicating narcotics from the region. “Such anti-drug operations will continue with full intensity in the coming days. The police are determined to curb the inflow of narcotics into the state, and there will be zero tolerance in such matters,” he stated.
The operation has brought a sense of relief among the local residents, who have lauded the police for their prompt and effective action. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused, and further investigation is underway to trace others connected to the racket.
