Shillong, June 9, 2025: The Meghalaya Police have made a significant breakthrough in the case involving the mysterious disappearance of an Indore-based honeymooning couple in May this year. After weeks of investigation, three individuals have been arrested—two from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and one from Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh—in connection with the tragic death of Raja Raghuvanshi and the disappearance of his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi.
The arrests, made following intensive investigation and coordination between multiple states, mark a critical step toward unravelling the case that gripped national attention.
In a major development, Sonam Raghuvanshi has voluntarily surrendered at the Nandganj Police Station in Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh. She is currently in the safe custody of the Uttar Pradesh Police. According to Meghalaya Police officials, proper legal procedures are being followed for her transit to Meghalaya and for recording her formal statement.
Multi-State Operation and Persistent Effort
The case was investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police, supported by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local intelligence units, and police teams from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
Despite difficult geographical terrain and intense public and media scrutiny, officials worked round-the-clock. Their perseverance led to critical breakthroughs, piecing together the events surrounding the death of Raja and Sonam’s disappearance.
A senior official from the Meghalaya Police said:
“We reaffirm our commitment to uphold the rule of law with integrity and professionalism. We are grateful for the cooperation of the public, the victim’s family, and our counterparts in other states.”
False Narrative Flagged by Authorities
Amidst growing public curiosity, a misleading message began circulating online claiming Sonam had been found at a roadside dhaba and taken into custody by local police in Uttar Pradesh. Authorities have officially flagged this version as incorrect and not originating from the office of the Director General of Police, Meghalaya.
Here is the clarification image released to counter the misinformation:

Clarification: The above message is not from an official police source. Meghalaya Police urges the media and public to rely only on official press releases and to refrain from sharing unverified claims that may mislead or interfere with the course of justice.
What’s Next?
With Sonam in police custody and three suspects already arrested, the focus now shifts to legal proceedings, including her formal questioning and the court-directed course of action.
The Meghalaya Police has assured the public that updates will be provided as the investigation continues and justice proceeds through due process.
In the meantime, officials have once again requested that media outlets and the public avoid speculation, and allow law enforcement agencies to complete the legal and forensic process without interference.
