Agartala, Jan 6: The Tripura government announced the closure of all schools across the state from January 6 to January 10, 2026, in view of the prevailing severe cold wave.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha informed about the decision through a social media post on Monday. He said the move was taken after scientific reports from the Meteorological Department confirmed intense cold conditions in several parts of the state.

According to the order, the closure will apply to government, government-aided, and private schools. The decision was taken considering the health and safety of school-going children, as temperatures have dropped abnormally across Tripura.
As per an earlier announcement, schools located in areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) will remain closed until January 13, 2026.
Parents have welcomed the decision, saying it prioritises the welfare of students during the ongoing cold wave. Education Department officials stated that schools would be reopened once weather conditions improve, adding that the situation is being closely monitored.
The government said the step reflects its proactive approach to protecting children during weather-related emergencies.
