Tripura, 02 May 2025: In a remarkable display of compassion and responsibility, two doctors from Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital have set an inspiring example by voluntarily donating blood to save the life of a female patient who required emergency surgery. The patient, a resident of Santirbazar, was admitted to GBP Hospital on March 17.
She was diagnosed with a choledochal cyst with neoplasm of the pancreasa serious condition requiring urgent surgical intervention. However, just before the procedure, doctors discovered that the patient’s hemoglobin level was critically low and additional blood was urgently required.
The situation became dire as none of the patient’s relatives or attendants were present at the hospital to donate blood. Her blood group was A positive. Rising to the occasion, two A-positive doctors from the hospital, Dr. Antara Roy Bhowmik and Dr. A. Kiran, stepped forward and voluntarily donated blood to ensure the surgery could proceed without delay.
Thanks to their timely intervention, the surgery was conducted successfully on April 30 without any blood shortage complications. Health department officials confirmed the news today, commending the doctors for their humanitarian spirit. This act is being widely praised across various circles as an example of the evolving positive mindset and compassion among healthcare professionals in Tripura. Such dedication not only strengthens public trust in the healthcare system but also underlines the noble spirit of the medical profession.
