SHABD, Mumbai, May 2: On the second day of the WAVES Summit 2025 in Mumbai, renowned actor Aamir Khan emphasized the urgent need to increase the number of cinema halls across India, citing it as essential for the sustained growth of the film industry. Speaking at a session titled “Studios of the Future: Putting India on the World Studio Map”, Khan acknowledged the significant support extended by the current government toward the development of Indian cinema.
“The government is doing historic work in supporting our film industry,” he said. However, Khan pointed to the declining number of cinema screens nationwide as a major concern. “We need more cinema halls. It’s crucial for the future of theatrical releases and to keep cinema accessible to audiences across regions,” he asserted. He also highlighted the importance of better synergy between traditional cinemas and digital platforms. “There needs to be a deeper collaboration between theatres and OTT platforms. Both have a role in taking Indian storytelling global,” Khan remarked. The session featured several dignitaries from the Indian film industry, who shared insights on positioning India as a global studio hub.
