Agartala: May 31. Veteran Communist leader and former Chairman of the CPI Tripura State Control Commission, Ramendra Dutta Gupta, popularly known as “Runu Babu”, passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 88 following prolonged age-related illness.
A dedicated Left activist, Gupta played a significant role in student, employee and democratic movements in Tripura. He formally joined the Communist Party of India (CPI) in 1974 and later served in several key organisational positions. From 2007 to 2015, he headed the CPI Tripura State Control Commission.
Following his demise, party leaders, relatives and admirers gathered at his residence and later paid floral tributes at CPI state headquarters, Junu Das Bhavan.
CPI Tripura State Council expressed deep condolences, describing his death as a major loss to the Left and democratic movement in the state.
