Agartala, May 23: Internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi writer and president of the Bangladesh Manipuri Sahitya Sangshad, A.K. Sheram, was conferred the prestigious Dr. Thiyam Suresh Literary Award during a literary programme held at the Agartala Press Club on Saturday.
The award was presented by Karam Shyam at an event jointly organised by the Patriotic Writers Forum in collaboration with PAWF Tripura.
Late Dr. Thiyam Suresh was remembered for his remarkable contributions to public health, literature and social welfare. The award instituted in his memory recognises outstanding contributions to literature and society.
The programme was presided over by Naoroibam Khamba Luwang. Other dignitaries present included Langoljam Birmangal, Kshetrimayum Madhabi and Yaiskul Khwairakpam.
Organisers stated that the event was originally scheduled to take place in Imphal but was later shifted to Agartala due to complications related to the entry of foreign nationals into Manipur under the Protected Area Permit (PAP) system.
During the programme, Dr. Nongmaitgem Anuradha was also felicitated as a patron member of PAWF Manipur. Delegates from Bangladesh, including Bimol Singha and Anju Ayekpam, were honoured as well.
The programme commenced with lamp lighting and floral tributes to Late Dr. Thiyam Suresh. A welcome address was delivered by Ningombam Pranay, while the keynote speech was presented by Rakesh Naorem.
On the occasion, a travelogue titled Bangladeshki Leimaida authored by Umabati Athokpam was officially released. The event concluded with a poetry session and cultural performances.
