Agartala: May 18. In a proud moment for Tripura and Northeast India, a royal family member, acclaimed poet and literary figure Sankha Subhra Devbarman is set to represent India at the 4th International Minangkabau Literacy Festival (IMLF) 2026 in Indonesia.
The prestigious event will be held from June 3 to June 7 in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, marking the centenary celebrations of the iconic Jam Gadang Clock Tower.
The festival is expected to bring together over 250 writers, poets, researchers, artists and cultural ambassadors from more than 30 countries. This year’s theme focuses on peace, sustainability and intercultural understanding through literature and cultural exchange.
Known for highlighting Northeast India’s rich cultural identity through his writings, Sankha Subhra Devbarman will participate in the World Poetry Parade beneath the historic Jam Gadang Clock Tower Plaza.
He will also join international seminars, literary discussions and cultural forums centered on heritage preservation, peace-building and global artistic collaboration. Literary circles across Tripura have described the achievement as a major honour for the state.
