Tripura, 09 May 2026: A tragic incident occurred in the Shantinagar area under Kalyanpur after a 22-year-old youth died from electrocution while allegedly using electricity to catch fish in a waterlogged field.
The deceased has been identified as Chiranjit Namasudra, a resident of Amtali Bagan Bazar. According to reports, Chiranjit had gone fishing along with others in a field filled with rainwater when he accidentally came into contact with electric current.
He was immediately rushed to the Kalyanpur Community Health Centre by his companions, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Chiranjib Deb said the patient was brought to the hospital without any detectable pulse or blood pressure.
“We checked the patient after he was brought in. His pulse and blood pressure were not recordable. We performed CPR and provided necessary treatment, but there was no response. His pupils were fully dilated, and we declared him brought dead,” the doctor stated.
The doctor further said that, based on the information provided by the patient’s companions and the injury marks found on the body, the death appeared to have been caused by electric shock.
Police have been informed, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
The incident has triggered widespread reactions across Kalyanpur. Locals noted that the illegal and dangerous practice of using electricity for fishing is not new in the area. The tragedy has once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter administrative monitoring as well as greater public awareness regarding the deadly risks involved.
