Khowai, Mar 31: Acting on a tip-off, plainclothes police on Tuesday morning detained four Bangladeshi nationals from the Mahadevtila Choumuhani area in Khowai district. The individuals were later taken to Khowai Police Station, where legal proceedings have been initiated, confirmed Officer-in-Charge Krishna Dhan Sarkar.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over frequent illegal cross-border movement along the Khowai sector, despite the presence of Border Security Force (BSF) units in the region.
According to sources, infiltration from across the border continues regularly, with allegations that certain stretches of the Khowai border have effectively turned into a corridor for illegal entry. Locals have questioned the effectiveness of border surveillance, pointing out that BSF’s 70 Battalion at Asharam Bari and 104 Battalion in the Prahormura area are deployed nearby.
Further allegations suggest that in areas such as Jambura, Purba Ganki, Jamtilla, and Jabbar Tilla, some illegal immigrants may be residing permanently. Sources also claim that a section of these individuals are attempting to secure residency through forged documents, allegedly with the help of local intermediaries.
Residents and various groups have demanded strict action against illegal infiltration and stronger enforcement measures. Concerns are growing that if the situation continues unchecked, it could pose serious challenges for the region in the future.
