Agartala: Mar 30. As the campaign schedule tightens ahead of the April 12 polling, MLA Ranjit Debbarma, while campaigning for Tipra Motha Party (TMP) candidate Kenaram Reang in the 26-Birchandranagar–Kalsi constituency, said the party is well-positioned, adding, “TMP now has enough leaders to regain a strong mandate,” citing its electoral successes in the 2021 TTAADC elections and the 2023 Assembly elections.
Addressing a gathering, Debbarma recalled the 2021 TTAADC general elections, when the TMP was barely two to three months old but went on to secure a decisive majority of 18 seats. He noted that the party had contested with an electoral understanding with INPT, which later merged with TMP.
Recounting his experience, Debbarma said party supremo Royal Scion (Bubagra) Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma had assigned him the responsibility of campaigning in the 27-Purba Muharipur–Buratali constituency and for candidate Dolly Reang in the 25-Nutanbazar–Malbasa constituency.
“At that time, I was not even an MLA. Everywhere I looked, there were CPI(M) flags, except at the TMP candidate’s house,” he said.
He further stated that instead of immediately campaigning, he spent two days analyzing voter numbers and the opposition’s strength at each polling station. Based on his calculations, he had predicted TMP’s victory even before the polls, which ultimately came true.
Comparing the past with the present, Debbarma emphasized that the party is now much stronger and better organized, expressing confidence that TMP will once again secure a significant mandate in the upcoming elections.
