Dharmanagar, Mar 23. BJP candidate Jahar Chakraborty filed his nomination for the April 9 by-election to the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly constituency, accompanied by a massive rally of thousands of supporters.
The rally, attended by nearly 10,000 BJP workers and supporters, passed through key areas of the town before reaching the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, where the nomination was formally submitted to Returning Officer Debjani Chowdhury.
A street meeting was held after the rally, where BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee asserted that the party is confident of retaining the seat, stating that Dharmanagar has been a BJP stronghold and will remain so.
Senior leaders, including district president Kajal Das and Mandal president Shyamal Nath, were present during the programme. Party leaders expressed strong confidence, highlighting development and organisational strength as key factors for victory.
They also described the by-election as a crucial test of public support, while launching sharp attacks on opposition parties, accusing them of misleading voters. The show of strength has intensified the political atmosphere, with opposition parties also preparing counter-campaigns.
