Agartala, Mar 21: Dhananjay Tripura, brother of former MP Rebati Tripura, has officially joined the Tipra Motha party (TMP), triggering fresh discussions in Tripura’s political circles.
In a development seen as politically significant, observers say the move could pose an embarrassment for Rebati Tripura, who had earlier criticised party founder and Royal Scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma over his “Thansa” narrative, questioning the role of royal family members and their alignment with different parties. Her brother’s switch is now being viewed as a moment that may reshape that narrative and weaken her earlier stance.
He was inducted into the party at a programme in Gondatwisa, where Tipra Motha leader and TTAADC Executive Member Rajesh Tripura handed him the party flag.
The move has drawn attention due to the political backdrop. Rebati Tripura is widely known as a strong critic of Bubagra Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, making her brother’s entry into the party a noteworthy and symbolic shift.
The induction event was attended by local party leaders and supporters, further underlining its political significance.
