Tripura, March 15: Bishramganj Police imposed a fine of ₹25,000 after catching a minor boy driving a car in the area, sending a strong message against underage driving on yesterday.
According to police sources, the incident came to light when officers intercepted a car bearing registration number TR07E0797. The vehicle was being driven by Ali Akbar, a Class 10 student of Don Bosco School, who was travelling with his friends from Golaghati to Bishramganj.
Police said the boy is the son of Abdul Kader, a resident of Golaghati. Since the driver was a minor, action was taken against the guardian under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Speaking to the media, Ajit Debbarma, Officer-in-Charge of Bishramganj Police Station, said that the fine was imposed under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, which was amended in 2019.
“This is the first time such a heavy fine has been imposed in Bishramganj. We want to send a strong message to all parents in the area do not allow your minor children to drive vehicles. If they are caught driving, the guardian will face a penalty of ₹25,000 as per the law,” the OC said.
He further informed that the boy’s father admitted his mistake and assured the police that he would not allow his son to drive again until he reaches the legal age.
Police have urged parents and guardians to strictly follow traffic rules to prevent accidents and ensure road safety.
