Tripura, March 12: Five passengers, including a child, were seriously injured after an electric auto lost control and met with an accident on the National Highway near Hathai kotor Eco Park under Teliamura police station area on Wednesday afternoon.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 2 PM while the auto was travelling from Champaknagar to Khowai. As the vehicle crossed the Boro Mura Eco Park area and attempted to take a turn, the driver Donal Debbarma reportedly lost control of the electric auto. The vehicle then overturned multiple times on the roadside.
All five occupants of the auto, including the driver, sustained serious injuries. Among the injured was also a young child.
Fortunately, a Fire and Emergency Services vehicle travelling from Agartala to Chhamanu was right behind the accident-hit auto. Fire personnel immediately stopped their vehicle and rushed the injured victims to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital.
After providing initial treatment, doctors referred all five injured persons to GBP Hospital in Agartala for advanced medical care.
However, a major problem arose during the referral process. Out of the three ambulances available at Teliamura Hospital, two were reportedly out of order. As a result, two critically injured patients had to wait in the hospital corridor for over 30 minutes for an ambulance.
When locals present at the hospital questioned the authorities about the delay, hospital officials allegedly shifted blame onto each other instead of providing a clear explanation.
Nearly one hour later, an ambulance finally arrived from Kalyanpur Hospital, after which the two remaining critically injured patients were sent to GBP Hospital, Agartala.
The incident has triggered strong public anger, with many accusing the hospital administration of gross negligence and lack of responsibility in handling emergency medical services.
