Tripura, 11 March 2026: Police have detained two persons, including a suspected broker, from the Indo-Bangladesh border area under Champahaur Police Station in Asharambari. The operation was carried out by the Khowai district police following a tip-off about the activities of a suspected cross-border broker network in the area.
According to police sources, the detained individuals have been identified as Rubel Das and Rajesh Oraon. Rubel Das is reportedly a resident of Silchar, Assam, while Rajesh Oraon is believed to be an active member of a broker network based in Tulsi Ram Bari in Khowai.
Police said Rubel Das had come to Khowai allegedly with the intention of illegally crossing into Bangladesh with the help of Rajesh Oraon. Acting on specific intelligence, the police detained both individuals on Wednesday.
Officer-in-Charge of Khowai Police Station, Krishnadhan Sarkar, told the media that the operation was carried out jointly by police personnel including SI Bishu Kumar Debbarma, OC Subhash Chandra Pal, and members of the district civil action team.
The police officer further revealed that the two detainees are also suspected to have links with a recent cattle theft case under investigation in the district.
During interrogation, police found possible involvement of the duo in the cattle theft case, following which they were detained. The suspects were reportedly picked up from Cheramma Baraibari area.
Police confirmed that both individuals will be produced before the court, and further investigation is underway to determine their involvement in the alleged broker network and other criminal activities.
Authorities have indicated that more arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
