Agartala, Mar 10: The first National Lok Adalat of the year in Tripura will be held on March 14 (Saturday), where a total of 26,574 cases will be taken up for disposal across 45 benches in courts throughout the state.
The Lok Adalat will sit at the premises of the Tripura High Court as well as all district and sub-divisional courts, aiming to resolve cases quickly and without legal expenses through mutual settlement.
According to official information from the state’s Information and Cultural Affairs Department, 21,390 pending court cases and 5,184 pre-litigation disputes will be considered during the session.
Among the cases listed for disposal are 20,718 compoundable criminal cases under various acts, 5,084 bank loan recovery cases, 422 motor accident compensation cases, 204 matrimonial disputes, 100 BSNL bill-related cases, 28 cheque bounce cases under the NI Act, and 18 service-related disputes.
At the Tripura High Court, one bench will take up 40 cases for settlement.
Authorities have already issued notices to the concerned parties. Legal volunteers and “Nyaya Mitras” will assist litigants through help desks set up at the Lok Adalat venues.
The Executive Chairman of the Tripura State Legal Services Authority, Justice Dr. Amarnath Goud, has issued necessary directions to ensure the smooth conduct of the Lok Adalat.
Member Secretary Jhuma Dutta Chowdhury has urged citizens to take advantage of the opportunity to resolve disputes quickly and without legal costs through the Lok Adalat system.
