Udaipur, Mar 9: Swapan Saha, a man aged around 55, was killed after being hit by a local DEMU train in the Baishnabichar area of Udaipur on Monday evening, triggering shock and grief among residents.
According to sources, the accident occurred at around 5:42 pm along the Sabroom–Agartala railway line when the train struck Saha, leaving him critically injured. Eyewitnesses said the impact threw him off the track, and he landed near a banana tree beside the railway line. He reportedly died on the spot after sustaining severe injuries to his face and body.
The train driver later informed the station authorities after reaching Bishramganj Railway Station, who subsequently relayed the information to Udaipur Railway Station.
Following the information, the Officer-in-Charge of the railway station, Gautam Roy Debbarma, rushed to the spot and alerted the police of Kakraban Police Station.
Police later recovered the body and initiated the necessary legal procedures. The identity of the deceased was initially unknown but was later confirmed as Swapan Saha.
The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the locality. Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the accident.
