Agartala, Mar 09: MLA Birajit Sinha on Sunday said that the elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and the Village Councils should ideally be held simultaneously to avoid administrative complications and confusion among people.
Speaking to reporters after an organisational meeting of the Indian National Congress in Kailashahar, Sinha said the meeting was convened at his residence on the initiative of district Congress president Md. Badruzzaman to review the party’s preparations for the upcoming ADC elections.
Referring to a notice issued to the state government by the Supreme Court of India, Sinha said that if simultaneous elections are not possible, the government should clearly announce the election schedule. He alleged that uncertainty over the polls has created confusion among people, particularly in ADC areas where the absence of elected Village Committee representatives has stalled several development works.
The organisational meeting was attended by party leaders and workers from three ADC Village Committee areas under the 53-Kailashahar Assembly constituency. Discussions focused on strengthening the party organisation at the grassroots level and expanding outreach among tribal communities ahead of the council elections.
Among those present were district Congress president and Gournagar Panchayat Samiti vice-chairman Md. Badruzzaman, along with Congress leaders Rudrendu Bhattacharjee, Swarai Reang and Tilakumar Darlong. Representatives from seven polling stations under the Karamcherra area also took part in the meeting.
Sinha further said that the party has already begun organisational planning across seven polling stations and three Village Committee areas to ensure a strong performance in the upcoming elections. Separate in-charges have also been appointed for each village area as part of the preparations.
With the elections approaching, the Congress has intensified its organisational activities across ADC areas of the Kailashahar Assembly constituency in a bid to strengthen its base and improve its prospects in the upcoming council polls.
