Kailasahar, May 10: The Kailasahar Police have arrested Asad Mia, former Vice-Chairman of Nurpur Gram Panchayat, under Gournagar Block, for allegedly posting anti-India content on Facebook. The post, which went viral on social media on Friday, sparked controversy across the subdivision.
Asad Mia, a resident of Ward No. 2 of Moinpur under Nurpur Panchayat, reportedly made the post on Friday. Following the online uproar, a formal written complaint was lodged against him by the Youth Congress at West Agartala Police Station.
Late Saturday night, the Kailasahar Police arrested Mia from his residence. He is currently in police custody. Speaking to the media, Officer-in-Charge of Kailasahar Police Station, Sukanta Sen Choudhury, stated that legal action will be taken against the accused.
He also confirmed that the controversial post has been deleted from Mia’s Facebook account. In a brief statement to the press, Asad Mia admitted that his post was inappropriate.
He claimed to have deleted it immediately after posting, but alleged that someone took a screenshot and circulated it online. He offered a public apology for his actions.
