SHABD | New Delhi | May 9, 2025: India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has strongly condemned Pakistan’s denial of responsibility for recent cross-border attacks, labeling it as “another example of duplicity and disinformation” by the neighboring country.
At a press conference held in New Delhi, Misri said,
“These provocative and escalatory actions taken by Pakistan last night were targeted at Indian cities and civilian infrastructure, in addition to military establishments. Indian armed forces responded proportionately, adequately, and responsibly.”
He criticized Pakistan’s official denial, calling it “blatantly farcical,” and accused Islamabad of resorting to dangerous levels of misinformation.
“This denial is yet another example of the new depths they are plumbing in their quest for disinformation,” Misri stated.
Civilian Targets Under Fire
The Foreign Secretary also alleged that Pakistan has been deliberately targeting religious sites, including gurdwaras, temples, and churches.
Citing a recent incident on May 7, Misri revealed that a shell fired from Pakistan during heavy shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) landed behind Christ School in Poonch.
“The shell struck the home of two students. Tragically, both children lost their lives, and their parents were injured,” he reported.
Kartarpur Corridor Suspended
In response to the attacks, India has suspended operations of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor until further notice. The corridor is a key religious route that allows Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.
India to Raise Issue at IMF Meet
On the diplomatic front, Misri confirmed India’s participation in an International Monetary Fund (IMF) meeting underway today.
“We will present our perspective on these matters to the international community,” he said.
Concluding his address, Misri emphasized that India had responded with restraint but resolve to Pakistan’s aggressive actions. “India acted responsibly and adequately this morning in response to the activities carried out by Pakistan,” he affirmed.
