Kailasahar, May 10: Acting on a tip-off, the Irani Police under Kailasahar Subdivision arrested five Bangladeshi nationals for illegally entering India. The detainees were produced before the Kailasahar Court on Saturday afternoon, which ordered their remand to Kailasahar Jail. The incident has sparked widespread sensation across the region. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Kailasahar, Jayanta Karmakar, informed the media that the arrests were made in two phases.
On the night of May 9, the Irani Police detained three Bangladeshi nationals from Depachhara village under its jurisdiction based on secret information. During interrogation, the three revealed that two more Bangladeshi nationals were staying with a relative in Machhmara under Pecharthal Police Station.
Following this lead, Irani Police raided the Machhmara area and detained the remaining two individuals. The arrested persons have been identified as Sheikh Mohammad Rubel, Dulal Mia, Asma Begum, and Champu Deb — along with a one-year-old child. All five hail from the Moulvibazar district of Bangladesh.
They had illegally crossed the Indo-Bangladesh international border,” SDPO Jayanta Karmakar stated.
After being produced before the Kailasahar Court on May 10, all five were sent to judicial custody at Kailasahar Jail. The court has scheduled their next hearing for May 22.
