Tripura 6 Feb, 2025: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is playing a vital role in the overall development of farmers in the state by providing them with scientific guidance for better crop yields. Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath stated this while inaugurating a five-day Krishi Science Fair at Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Panisagar as part of the Krishi Swarna Samriddhi Week.
The minister emphasized that such fairs will help strengthen the agricultural sector and empower farmers towards self-reliance. As part of the event, he also laid the foundation stone for a Pig Demonstration Unit under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).
The event was attended by North Tripura Zilla Parishad Chairperson Aparna Nath, MLAs Binay Bhushan Das, Yadab Lal Nath, and Philip Kumar Reang, KVK official Dr. A.K. Mohanty, and Director of Horticulture & Soil Conservation P.B. Jamatia, among others.
Government Initiatives to Double Farmers’ Income
Addressing the gathering, Minister Nath reiterated the state government’s commitment to doubling farmers’ income through various initiatives. He highlighted that both central and state government schemes are being effectively implemented to reach even the remotest farmers. The minister also encouraged the use of modern agricultural machinery to boost production and directed officials to take necessary steps to transform North Tripura district into a leading agricultural hub within the next three years.
Support for Farmers at the Fair
Several stalls were set up by self-help groups at the fair, which were visited by the minister and other dignitaries. On this occasion, agricultural equipment, high-quality seeds, and saplings were distributed among farmers. Additionally, five farmers were honored with the ‘Krishak Samman’ award for their outstanding contributions to agriculture.
