Agartala 25-02-23: The Renowned folk artist of the state Tarubala Debbarma received the prestigious Sangeet Akademi Award 2020 from President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan, in New Delhi on Thursday.

Tarubala works as a headmistress in Jatindra Higher Secondary School and her name went in contention for the award in November last year.
She has already made an outstanding contribution to the preservation and promotion of Tripuri (Tipra) Folk Art Forms and Culture.

She promotes Tripuri folk dance and music at various regional and national stages. She as also mentored large number of traditional troupe that has performed all across India at various occasions.

She was awarded the Ranchak Richak Isri Sengthuma Sokat in 2021 for women empowerment, preservation and promotion of Tiprasa traditional folk art forms.

Tarubala Debbarma said that the ward is not only her but for the people of Tripura and dedicated it to her forefathers who were involved in it and also for the upcoming generation. She was thankful to Sangeet Akademi for recognising the indigenous traditional Tipra folk art forms.

She offered her gratitude to President Droupadi Murmi who presented the award on this big day of her life.
