Agartala: Mar 28. In a disturbing incident of social depravity, the lifeless body of a newborn baby boy was discovered hanging from a tree in a bag near Kenania Market under the Kamalasagar Assembly constituency this evening.
The gruesome discovery was made by local residents of the Kenania area, who noticed a bag snagged among the vines and branches of a jungle adjacent to a farmland. Upon closer inspection, they found the body of a fully developed male infant estimated to be near full-term suspended in mid-air. The sight drew a large, distraught crowd to the spot as news of the horrific incident spread through the locality.
Madhupur Police, led by responding officers, arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted by the public. Preliminary investigations and the manner in which the body was disposed of seemingly hurled into the thicket under the cover of darkness—have led authorities and locals to suspect a case of infanticide linked to an “illegitimate” birth.
Following the recovery, the police shifted the infant’s body to the Madhupur Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. A high-level investigation has been initiated to identify the biological mother or any individuals involved in abandoning the child.
Officers are currently scanning local medical records and questioning residents to determine if any woman or girl in the vicinity was recently pregnant or is missing a newborn.
