Dharmanagar, Mar 27: With preparations intensifying for the upcoming by-election in the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly constituency, the Returning Officer, Debjani Chowdhury, chaired a crucial meeting with election agents of all political parties to ensure a smooth and transparent polling process.
The meeting focused on clarifying key voting procedures, with special emphasis on maintaining free, fair, and lawful conduct of the election. Detailed guidelines were shared on doorstep voting for elderly and physically unfit voters, ensuring their participation without visiting polling stations.
Officials also briefed agents on the use of postal ballots for government employees and personnel engaged in essential services. The role of facilitation centres in enabling voting for specific categories was explained, along with the responsibilities of election agents at these centres.
Additionally, the process of EVM commissioning—preparing and verifying machines ahead of polling—was discussed to ensure transparency and reliability.
The Returning Officer assured that all necessary administrative measures are being taken to conduct the election peacefully and in accordance with the law, while urging cooperation from all political stakeholders.
