Agartala, Mar 23. Congress candidate Chayan Bhattacharjee filed his nomination for the upcoming by-election to the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly constituency on Monday, accompanied by a large and vibrant rally across the town.
The rally began from the District Congress Bhavan and passed through key streets of Dharmanagar before reaching the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office, where Bhattacharjee formally submitted his nomination papers to Returning Officer Debjani Chowdhury. Senior party leaders, including North District Congress President Digbijay Chakraborty and leader Badrul Zaman, were present along with party workers and supporters.
The procession, marked by party flags, banners, and slogans, energized the political atmosphere in the town, reflecting heightened activity ahead of the by-election.
Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination, Bhattacharjee said he is confident of contesting the election with the support of the people. He emphasized that his primary goal is the overall development of Dharmanagar. He further described the election as more than just a contest for a seat, calling it a “fight to restore democracy” and a commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of the people.
Political observers believe the by-election is set to witness an intense contest, with both ruling and opposition parties already stepping up their campaigns. The political climate in Dharmanagar has turned increasingly competitive, with every move gaining significance.
