Dharmanagar, Mar 22: Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jitendra Chaudhury on Sunday questioned the BJP government’s development record in Dharmanagar over the past eight years, alleging widespread corruption and lack of progress in key sectors.
Addressing a press conference at the CPI(M) party office in Dharmanagar, Chaudhury urged voters to assess the condition of healthcare, education, culture, and infrastructure, including roads and electricity, before casting their votes in the upcoming by-election.
He alleged that most projects undertaken during the period were aimed at “looting public funds,” benefiting a select few rather than the general population. Chaudhury also claimed that people in the region have witnessed increasing political clashes instead of development in recent years.
Highlighting past achievements, he said major institutions in Dharmanagar—such as colleges, the district hospital, ISBT, and a water treatment plant—were established during the Left Front government’s tenure.
The CPI(M) leader further stated that the party has already announced candidates for 23 out of 28 ADC seats, with the remaining nominations to be filed within the next three days.
Criticising the ruling alliance, Chaudhury said the BJP, Tipra Motha, and IPFT coalition is “disconnected from the people,” pointing to recent public disagreements between Chief Minister Dr. (Prof.) Manik Saha and Tipra Motha Party (TMP) founder & Royal Scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma as evidence of internal discord.
He concluded by appealing directly to voters, stating that the electorate will decide which political force can ensure a free and secure life through the upcoming election.
