Agartala, Mar 22. Amtali police seized 21 kg of dry ganja and arrested an alleged trafficker during an operation in Kanchanmala on Sunday evening. The accused, identified as Biplab Chakraborty alias Rocky, was caught along with a Maruti car used for transporting the contraband.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Sub-Inspector Hiren Debbarma, along with police and TSR personnel, rushed to intercept the vehicle. The car (TR 03 N 0615) was stopped near Ramkrishna Higher Secondary School in Laxmichhara, where two sacks of ganja were recovered during a search.
Officer-in-Charge Paritosh Das said the estimated market value of the seized ganja is around ₹1.3 lakh. A forensic team and the Bikramnagar Tehsildar also reached the spot, and the contraband was seized following due legal procedures.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused hails from Gokulnagar. Police said a case under the NDPS Act will be registered, and the accused will be produced in court seeking police remand.
