Agartala, Mar 21: BSF jawan Wasim Mia, a resident of Boxanagar, was laid to rest with full state honours on Saturday, drawing a large gathering of mourners who paid their final respects to the fallen soldier.
The funeral was marked by a guard of honour and ceremonial salute by the Border Security Force (BSF). The national flag was handed over to his wife, while slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Shaheed Wasim Mia Amar Rahe” echoed across the area, reflecting both grief and pride.
Wasim Mia, who served in the 133 Battalion of the BSF since 2004, passed away on Thursday at 11:05 PM at a private hospital in Chhattisgarh after a prolonged illness. He had completed around 22 years of service.
His mortal remains were brought to Putia village on Saturday, coinciding with Eid-ul-Fitr, where a large number of people gathered to pay tribute. Floral tributes were offered at Putia High School ground by public representatives, BSF officials, and local residents.
Among those present were MLA Tafajjal Hossain, Assistant Commandant Aman Yadav of the 49 Battalion BSF, social workers, local leaders, and administrative officials.
Following the tribute ceremony, the body was taken to his residence and later buried according to Islamic rites. The emotional scenes during the funeral reflected the deep loss felt by his family and the community.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
