Khowai: Mar 20. A seven-day handicraft training workshop for tribal women, aimed at promoting self-reliance and skill development, concluded in Khowai on Friday. The programme trained 20 women participants, who were awarded certificates during the closing ceremony.
The workshop was organised by the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with the Information and Cultural Affairs Department of Tripura and supported by Shubham Natya Chakra. The initiative focused on empowering tribal women through traditional handicraft skills, contributing to the vision of a self-reliant India.
The training programme began on March 12 and concluded with a formal event attended by several dignitaries. Social worker Binoy Debbarma graced the occasion as the chief guest. Other notable attendees included Anukul Das, Chairman of the Works Standing Committee of Khowai Zilla Parishad; Piyush Kanti Chowdhury, Chairman of the Sports and Cultural Standing Committee of Khowai Municipal Council; Sub-Divisional Information Officer Rupak Acharya; and Shubham Natya Chakra Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharjee.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Khowai Municipal Council Vice Chairman Nibas Kanti Saha.
During the event, certificates were distributed among the 20 tribal women who successfully completed the training.
Officials highlighted that such initiatives play a crucial role in strengthening the economic independence of tribal women while preserving traditional art and craft practices.
