Tripura, 18 March 2026: In a major crackdown, police from East Agartala Police Station arrested two youths for allegedly smuggling contraband substances disguised as parcel delivery agents. The incident took place at Kabiraj Tilla during a routine vehicle checking drive.
According to Officer-in-Charge Abhijit Mandal, the accused were carrying delivery-style bags and attempting to transport illegal substances on a bike. When police signaled them to stop, the duo tried to flee, prompting a chase before they were successfully apprehended.
Upon inspection, police recovered 140 bottles of Eskuf (cough syrup) along with the motorcycle used for transportation. One of the accused is a minor, and his identity has not been disclosed as per legal norms.
The suspects had packed the contraband in two delivery bags, resembling those used by parcel delivery workers, to avoid suspicion. The estimated value of the seized items is around ₹3 lakh.
Police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and initiated a detailed investigation to trace the source and intended destination of the seized substances.
The accused were arrested on March 17 and are scheduled to be produced before the court on March 18, police confirmed.
