Ambassa: Mar 08. The International Women’s Day was celebrated with due dignity in Ambassa today, with the Ambassa Municipal Council organising a special programme to honour women for their contributions across various fields.
The event was held at the Ambassa Town Hall under the theme of women’s empowerment and building a progressive society.
Several distinguished women from the area were felicitated during the programme. Among them, retired teacher Khushbala Deb of Dalubari was accorded special recognition for her contribution to education. In addition, awards were presented to women workers who excelled in their respective roles, including sanitation staff, door-to-door waste collectors, segregation workers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and women self-help groups.
The programme was inaugurated by Ambassa Municipal Council Chairperson Pratima Malakar, who lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the beginning of the event. A pledge ceremony was also conducted, reaffirming commitment to protecting women’s rights and promoting gender equality.
Vice-Chairman Gopal Sutradhar, councillors Uttam Adhikari, Shankar Chakraborty and Deepa Deb, along with Ambassa Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rinku Reang, attended the programme as guests.
In their addresses, the speakers highlighted the vital role women play in society and stressed the need to ensure their rights, dignity and opportunities.
