Agartala, March 6: Marking the upcoming International Women’s Day on March 8, the Tripura State Women’s Commission has announced a series of programmes across the state aimed at empowering women and addressing their grievances.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, the Chairperson of the Commission, Jharna Debbarma, said that Women’s Public Hearings (Mahila Jan Sunwai) will be organised in all eight districts of Tripura from March 8 to March 13. Through this initiative, women will get the opportunity to directly present their problems and concerns before the Commission.
According to the schedule, the programme will begin on March 8 in West Tripura district, followed by Gomati and Sepahijala districts on March 9, South Tripura on March 10, Khowai and Dhalai districts on March 11, Unakoti district on March 12, and North Tripura district on March 13.
The Chairperson further informed that on March 7, the Commission will open a pre-marital counselling centre named “Tere Mere Sapne” at the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office. The centre will provide counselling facilities for young couples before marriage if required.
As part of the extended programme, sewing machines will be distributed among selected women on March 17 at Sukanta Academy, while on March 20, the Commission will felicitate five “Lakhpati Didis” from West Tripura district at Nazrul Kalakshetra.
The press conference was also attended by the Vice Chairperson of the Women’s Commission, Madhumita Chowdhury, Member Secretary Madhab Pal, and other members of the Commission.
